Ask OSPP a Question →

After more than 15 years helping professionals navigate their careers, I know that getting hired and building a career you actually want to live with are two different things. A résumé matters—but it is not the entire strategy.

Why we're moving beyond résumé writing

Professionals ask me questions that go far beyond document formatting: Is this offer really better after taxes? Can I afford to change industries? What salary would help me eliminate debt? How can I stay relevant and still enjoy my life? What does a second chapter of work look like near retirement? That's why OSPP is evolving into a more comprehensive Career Intelligence experience.

A higher salary isn't always a better life

A $30,000 raise may come with longer hours, higher commuting costs, fewer benefits or less flexibility. Six figures can still leave someone financially stretched. I want professionals to evaluate what an opportunity actually provides: spendable income, market relevance, transferable skills, career mobility, and personal fulfillment.

My career longevity framework

Career longevity depends on five interconnected dimensions: financial sustainability + market relevance + transferable skills + career mobility + personal fulfillment. This is a decision framework, not a literal equation or guarantee. A strong career should support your life, not consume it.

What our Career Intelligence tools help you calculate

Salary and take-home pay

We examine gross compensation against estimated federal and state taxes, Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes, benefits, and other relevant deductions. The useful question is not simply 'How much more will I earn?' but 'How much better will my financial position become?'

Debt-to-Freedom

We look at total income, essential expenses, a savings buffer, debt balances, interest rates, and payment goals. A foundational relationship is available monthly debt payment = estimated take-home income − essential expenses − planned savings buffer. Payoff scenarios can then estimate how long repayment may take and what additional salary could help reach a 12-, 24-, or 36-month goal.

Retirement and second-chapter income

Retirement planning is not only about stopping work. Many professionals want consulting, mentoring, fractional work or part-time income. We explore an estimated retirement income gap: anticipated retirement spending minus estimated spendable retirement income, considering sources such as Social Security, pensions, savings withdrawals, and earned income.

Career change and long-term opportunity

Before paying for training or pursuing a viral career trend, consider demand, transferable experience, retraining cost, realistic pay, time to transition, work-life fit, and future mobility. Expected long-term benefits must be weighed against financial costs, opportunity costs and risk.

What's changing on our homepage

Your Starting Point helps you identify your career situation. Our services help you compare support from targeted reviews and coaching to hands-on search assistance. Career Snapshot and Career Intelligence resources help you explore obstacles and options. Financial Mobility tools connect salary, debt, side income, and retirement decisions to career strategy. Features are being introduced and refined in stages; estimates depend on entered data and stated assumptions.

Why clients return at different stages

Someone who once needed an entry-level résumé may return for leadership positioning, a career transition or retirement planning. The market changes. Your responsibilities change. Your strategy should change too. I bring both career expertise and a data-and-analytics mindset to those decisions.

What success means to me

Career success is not exclusively a title, salary or impressive LinkedIn profile. It's the financial stability, professional relevance, satisfaction and freedom to make meaningful choices about your future. We're not abandoning résumés. We're putting them where they belong: inside a larger career strategy.
